Tips and Tricks for Your First Time Offroading
So you've decided to take the plunge and take the mall-crawler out of the parking lot and into the wilderness. We've put together a comprehensive guide to your first time offroading and some helpful tips for having the most fun.
Where to Rent or Buy an ATV’s/UTV’s
Since this is your first time off-roading, you have a few decisions to make. If you're not ready to purchase your own ATV or UTV yet, don't worry. Most offroad parks offer rentals, and if you find yourself in our neck of the woods, Crossbar Ranch has a complete selection of 2-seater, 4-seater, and even 6-seater pre-owned ATV’s and used UTV’s. You can check out their pricing and available time slots if you’re looking to rent.
If you want to make this a more permanent adventure and truly adapt the #rideyourlifestyle, you can buy a new ATV or new UTV and keep making memories. Another option is using a truck or SUV, like a Jeep, to ride the trails. If you choose to ride in a Jeep, make sure you have cleaned it out before, and secure any loose items. This ensures that when you do hit those rocky ravines and steep hills, that nothing will come loose and distract the driver, or worse, injure a passenger. These trails are fit for either choice of ATV, UTV, or Jeep.
Choosing the Right Trail
Crossbar Ranch Offroad Park has a variety of trails from which to choose, which means that no matter what you're driving, you're not going to feel left out. From incredibly advanced and challenging offroad trails to beginner routes, it's important to plan what trails you should take beforehand.
Since this is your first time, the easy rides are the better option for you, especially if you're bringing along younger riders. The good news is you can come back anytime and up your driving skills to take on the more challenging routes. With pit-stops like Dead Man’s Slide, Wheeler Peak, and the Onion Patch, you’re sure to see new things every time you ride.
Since this Oklahoma off-road park is so large, you’ll want to bring plenty of snacks and water. Crossbar ranch has an on-site general store has all the refreshments, snacks or any other amenities you might need. Along with the general store, there is a service department and a fuel stop, just in case you need them. To see a full map of the park, click here.
Safety on the Trails
So, you’ve picked your vehicle, chosen a time, and decided on a trail, now you need to take your last precautions. Although this park is full of festivities, it is important to always be safe while driving. All loose items need to be secured or stowed away to prevent distraction or injury. Despite the adrenaline rush of bouncing off rocks and splashing through creeks, going slow to get acquainted to the environment is smarter for your first experience. Especially when coming to sharp turns, it is important to slow down to prevent an accident. Keeping a loose grip while hitting bumps and ruts will keep you from getting tired or becoming stiff behind the wheel.
